Presentation of credentials of Ambassador Babakhanian to the President of Sri Lanka

07 February, 2023

On February 02, Ambassador of Armenia Youri Babakhanian handed over his Letters of Credence to the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe.

For the first time, the presentation ceremony took place in Kandy, the historical capital of Sri Lanka. 14 newly appointed non-resident ambassadors from Delhi presented their credentials along with Ambassador Babakhanian. Upon completion of the official ceremony, the President Wickremesinghe hosted a reception in honour of the newly appointed ambassadors.

On February 03, all newly appointed ambassadors met and had brief talks with the country's Foreign Minister Ali Sabri. Welcoming the Ambassador of Armenia, Foreign Minister Sabri expressed his country’s readiness to develop traditional good relations with friendly Armenia in all possible arenas.

For his part, Ambassador Babakhanian emphasized Armenia's desire to give a new charge to the traditionally good cooperation between our countries, especially in tourism, education, jewellery, agriculture, high technologies and a number of other fields. He particularly emphasized the positive cooperation of the two countries in international organizations, particularly, in the United Nations. The ambassador also promised to return to Sri Lanka soon to have detailed discussions on the prospects of bilateral cooperation with the interested parties.
